The human body inspires my sculptures, paintings, and drawings. I find the relationship between model and artist fascinating and inspiring, and it forms the basis of my practice. In each of my works I try to capture and celebrate the people around me. I strive to portray the abstract qualities of the body within the realm of realism, which allows me to capture the atmosphere and emotion. Ultimately, I aim to portray the power of the human body.
The result is a body of work with the human body at its core. The various media interact with and build upon each other. When I sculpt, I focus on texture, finish, size, and material. In my paintings color, composition, size, and brushstroke play an important role. The quick tempo of drawing and painting allows me the freedom to direct – with loose, swift lines – the view of the spectator. These works form an important contrast with my sculptures.
